Frederick County depositions regarding the enslavement of a woman and her child, 1788 - 1790
Scope and Contents
Two manuscript depositions in a dispute between William Holland and Francis Thomas, both of Frederick County, Maryland over the enslavement of a woman and her child. The woman is referred to by the name "Suck" in the depositiond, and her child is unnamed. The first deposition is dated August 1788 and is from a man named John Holmes. The other deposition is dated August 19, 1790 and is from a man named Stephen Gartnell. The depositions were given before the Justice of Peace for Frederick County, signed W.M. Beall.
