Scope and Contents
This series contains subject files documenting issues of interest to the Senator from the time of his election to the Maryland General Assembly through his service in the U.S. Senate. Materials date from 1959 through 1988. The series consists of correspondence, Congressional Record inserts; Record Reprints to be enclosed with letters in response to various issues; press releases; speeches; statements; and articles written by the Senator for publication as OpEd pieces in magazines or journals; clippings from the National Journal and the Congressional Quarterly; memos to Mathias from his staff; telephone messages; and Mathias legislative assistants' files.
