Scope and Contents

From the Record Group:

The records of the Office of the Dean of Arts and Sciences, ranging in date from 1933 to 1993, are those kept by the following Deans: Richard Cox, G. Heberton Evans, Allyn Kimball, George Benton, George Owen and Sigmund Suskind. While the records of the first six deans are missing, the record group is otherwise quite extensive. The records document the administrative operations of the School of Arts and Sciences. The records include departmental correspondence, committee files, subject files, memoranda, and policy statements. Topics dealt with in this record group include the student protest against military recruitment on campus in 1970, the breakup of the Education Department and the formal acquisition of Levering Hall from the YMCA.
