Scope and Contents note

From the Series:

Series 2 consists of correspondence of the Magazine's editors and their subordinates, from 1934 to 1982. Records of subordinates under the various editors are included as part of the appropriate subseries. There are no records from the Magazine's first Editor, Lawrence C. Wroth, nor from later Editors Norman S. Heaney or J. Louis Kuethe. The bulk of this series consists of outgoing correspondence, including replies to letters to the editor, requests for articles, comments on manuscripts, explanations of rejections, replies to complimentary and uncomplimentary letters, and requests for permission to reproduce articles. There are a few files on special subjects, including correspondence with Dr. Linus Pauling regarding the retraction of allegedly slanderous statements; correspondence with the Shelley Publishing Company concerning a Magazine issue entitled "The Education of a Physician;" and correspondence of Editor Anthony Neville and Associate Editor C. David Nelson regarding a special issue on International Health.
