Abstract
Raymond Dexter Havens, educator and author, was born in Rochester, New York in 1880. In 1925, he joined The Johns Hopkins University faculty as Caroline Donovan Professor of English, a post he held until his retirement in 1949. The holographic letters which form this collection were written by the English poet, Robert Southey. The letter of August 22, 1825 was written to "Dear Sir."
